From 2016 to 2017: On Being Braver, Tougher, and Punnier

January 4, 2017

hiking mt. pundaquitIt was still 2016 when I started writing this post. But as usual, life happened. Procrastination happened. And alas, I completely forgot about it. I put it off for awhile and I ended up taking days to finish this post. It’s a perfectly apt way to round up 2016, my worst blogging year since I started in 2010, as it reflected my writing pattern.

I’d love to say something profound, and I’d even want to brag how I ended the previous year with a bang. But I spent the last two days of 2016 binge watching Gilmore Girls, in bed in my pajamas, something I have done every other weekend last year. Do I regret it? Definitely not.

I didn’t even do half of what I said I would do in 2016, but I ended up doing some unexpected things. It wasn’t a bad year. Though it’s not the best, it’s stupid not to be thankful for all the blessings and opportunities the year opened for me. Though there were times that I almost digressed back to my old self and questioned whether my actions are symptoms of depression (apparently not!), I grew up a little and realized that trudging on is better than wallowing. Besides, you can’t possibly go through quarter life crisis twice!

Despite all the memes saying it was the worst and in spite of all the crying, shouting, and delivering lame jokes everyday, 2016 wasn’t that bad. [Read more…]

Birthday Celebration at Cafe Chosun in Malate, Manila

July 15, 2016

26th birthday

If there’s anything about turning 26 that’s different from my other birthdays, it’s that I was no longer dreading it. Maybe it’s because I had a flight to catch the next day. Or maybe it’s because I was looking forward to my birthday dinner at Cafe Chosun in Malate. Or maybe I am maturing a little bit, and I realized that growing a little older isn’t so bad.

After researching and researching where to eat for dinner that day, my sister and I decided on Cafe Chosun. Good thing it was open 24 hours because we had dinner quite late. It was raining hard on my birthday, and as usual, the streets of Makati were flooded. We almost got stranded, but no rain could dampen my spirits. After all, it was my birthday.

I’m no longer a birthday grinch! [Read more…]

Life Lately: Three Months Later

July 9, 2016

life lately july (1)

I’m back! After a long three-month hiatus, my blog is finally back!

I actually thought I wouldn’t get to put this back up, and I even got worried that I would no longer be able to retrieve my files. So first, thanks to my friends who calmed me down and taught me about website hosting, migration, etc., etc. There’s still a lot to be fixed, but as far as I’m concerned I’m just happy that it’s all okay now. (Except it’s super slow, thanks to my server. I think. I don’t know! It’s too technical, h a l p.)

So what have I been up to? A LOT.

  • Since I last blogged, I’ve been to Pangasinan, Cebu, and Zambales. I have so much to write about, and I’m pretty sure that it would probably take me forever to write everything. Heck, I’m not even done with my Taiwan posts.
  • I turned 26! I’m starting to look my age, but I’m not sure.
  • Career-wise, I got promoted! But I’m still broke so there’s that.
  • I now write for Philihappy. Can I hear a woot?
  • I have marathoned two seasons of Daredevil and two seasons of The Flash. And oh, two seasons of Game of Thrones! Aaaaand more anime than I can count. Right now, I’m watching Jessica Jones. I haven’t been reading much, though.
  • Also, for the first time in years, I reunited with everyone in Manillenials. All eleven of us!!!!
  • I though being in the morning shift would make me more active. But no, I still fall asleep in the cinema.
  • I haven’t watched a Korean drama in as much time as I hadn’t blogged. This is the longest that I haven’t watched a drama. I plan to spend the entire July marathoning Dear My Friends, Oh Hae Young Again, and Mirror of the Witch.
  • Park YooChun is probably a rapist (Oh he’s acquitted! Oh wait, not yet. Grr.). The memories of my teenage years are now ruined forever. My happiness was a lie. I can no longer listen to a DB5K song without becoming a horrible mess. So nope.
  • I feel like a superwoman because I started going to the gym. Unfortunately, I haven’t been this week. I already lost a kilo, though!

Wow, three months down to ten bullet points! I haven’t done a lot, have I? Life really feels kind of slow lately. My life, anyway.

Today, it’s raining cats and dogs and I want to be an absolute millennial and stay at home all day watching my shows.

2016 Onwards: The Toned Down To-Do List

January 2, 2016

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

Last year, I didn’t do a lot of things I said I would. In fact, I always come up with a yearly to-do list that ends up being forgotten by the end of February. Reality happens way too fast that I rarely follow through all my plans.

I had a love-hate relationship with 2015. It started with a somewhat laid-back first quarter, a happy-go-lucky middle, and finished with a frustratingly taxing fourth quarter. I have met amazing people this year, new friends I now hold dear. And surprisingly, I have managed to keep in touch with the old ones! I am lucky that I have met people after college whom I can consider as my true friends. Not everyone is so lucky. So I guess I still have a lot of things I have to be thankful for.

2015 wasn’t so bad, but it definitely wasn’t the best. I started a new job, met new friends, started writing for Tripzilla, and gained more pounds than necessary! On the downside, none of my clothes fit, hadn’t written much for Manillenials, didn’t get to travel as much as I wanted, barely had time for anything but work, and very broke. By the end of the year, I was tempted to throw myself a pity party every night, but I realized that I’m too old for that. Instead, I tell myself that this should be a motivation.

2016 needs to be better. I need to be better. It’s all up to me, isn’t it? No more dilly-dallying. No more worrying. It’s about time I stop doubting myself. [Read more…]

Life Lately: On Silly Faces, Skipped Classes, and Spilled Milk Tea

August 10, 2015

life lately Hello from me, whose eyebags are slowly swallowing her entire face. I haven’t been blogging much lately, and that’s mostly because all I do is sleep when I’m out of the office. Though I can stay awake during my shift, staying awake during the day proves to be more difficult. I am also now more adept to sleeping six to eight hours straight from noon to early evening, which I believe to be a talent. Since blogging is now way below on my priority list, I think doing this Life Lately posts should become part of my regular programming. So yes, you can expect more types of posts like this in the future/   [Read more…]

Hello, I'm Janey. I'm a fangirl, a bookworm, a dreamer and a wannabe writer. I'm a couch potato and a traveler rolled into one.
This is my lame attempt to be a travel blogger, but honestly, this is just an archive of my daily reality.
