Mr. Crazy Baboy: A Must-Try Korean Restaurant in Los Baños

August 16, 2018

Mr. Crazy Baboy is a Korean grill restaurant in Los Baños near the UPLB campus. It’s one of the Korean restaurants that sprouted in Elbi for the past few years.

And by the past few years, I actually meant the years after I graduated from the university! Why were there suddenly tons of Korean restaurants and cafes and even a student organization for KPOP fans after I left? Where were you when I had no college friends and when I spent years wondering when I could finally try samgyupsal? I swear, greater things happened after I graduated. Anyway.

I don’t visit Elbi as much as I want to, but my sister, who regularly does, brags about the new restaurants she tries everytime she visits. So when we spent an entire day in UPLB for her pre-nuptial shoot, we had dinner at a Korean restaurant right after.

I’m not sure if it’s because I haven’t had samgyupsal in months, but I seriously enjoyed everything we ordered that night. 10/10 would recommend. [Read more…]

Nami Island and The Garden of Morning Calm: Day Trip from Seoul During Spring

July 29, 2018

gapyeong day tour

On our second visit to South Korea together, my sister and I decided to explore nearby towns and provinces instead of spending more time in Seoul. Of course, it’s impossible for us to get tired of Hongdae or Myeongdong, but there were tons of nearby cities and towns perfect for a day trip from Seoul as well.

Let’s start on our Nami Island and The Garden of Morning Calm day tour, shall we? We made sure to allot a day exploring Gapyeong and Chuncheon, and it’s also one of the more popular destinations nearby Seoul that’s perfect for a day trip.

I had been to Nami Island in autumn, but I hadn’t been to the Garden of Morning Clam. My sister hadn’t been to both, too. We decided to skip Petite France just because, and we chose to visit the arboretum instead since it was used as a filming site for Moonlight Drawn By Clouds. My sister was having her Park Bogum phase that time, lol. (She’s now on her Park Woojin phase!)

It seriously feels so long ago, but I’ll still try to keep the post as detailed as possible. Forgive me if some details would escape me. [Read more…]

Life Lately: On Growing up and Turning a Year Older

June 6, 2018

A day before my birthday, I took a leave of absence from work to spend some time alone. It probably sounds silly, wanting to have an alone time when most people would celebrate it with friends and family. But after spending everyday surrounded by people, with my schedule being reliant on other people’s schedule, I wanted a day all to myself. You can say it’s an introvert’s birthday wish.

I woke up late, read and had breakfast in bed, napped for an hour, ate lunch by myself, then went home to Laguna when I felt like it. It would have been perfect if I wasn’t coughing and sneezing the entire day.

Though I didn’t really do anything special, having a day of rest was enough to make me happy. [Read more…]

Life Lately: On Staying, Leaving, and Finding New Beginnings

April 14, 2018

I vowed to blog at least twice a month this year, but it’s been incredibly hectic that I didn’t have time at all. I swear I wanted to, but there were too many movements the past few months that I could barely sit down to blog about everything. Can you believe we’re already on the second quarter of the year?!?

January felt so long, February seemed so short, and I feel like we skipped March and it’s suddenly April. But when I looked back at the first few months of 2018, I realized that so many things happened. Though I have fully embraced being a homebody, some major life events actually took place. Package Tours Versus Independent Travel: Which One is For You?

March 22, 2018

Dalaguete Beach

Over the past few years, I get a lot of questions on whether I prefer package tours over DIY traveling. It’s a difficult question to answer, because the answer is always a case to case basis.

Though most of the traveling I share on my blog are independent traveling, my first overseas travel was actually one organized by my parents when I was just 17 years old. Everything was arranged by a travel agency, and my sister and I just had to join tour groups to make sure we wouldn’t get lost in Hong Kong. It was convenient, and for a minor, it was the safest mode of touring.

Since I started organizing my own trip, booking my own flights, and making my own hotel reservations, I enjoyed planning my travels so much that I usually plan everything myself without joining any tours.

But still, I am always careful when answering this question because there are different types of travelers. There are no ideal traveler and no wrong way to travel. There’s just finding what suits your needs and wants as a tourist, or a traveler, if you’d prefer being referred to that way.

So, what really is it? What’s the better way to travel? [Read more…]
