The Bests of Last Year

January 1, 2013

2012 was a lot of things, but most of all, it was awesome.

I barely crossed out anything on my to-do list for last year, but I still can’t help but feel that on 2012, I experienced more amazing things than ever. I can never rate my year or to quantify it’s awesomeness, but I can tell you that I never felt this thankful, this blessed before.

My online accounts have been sending a review of my 2012 but it barely captured what I’d been up to. Oh, I’m still in my old job, I’m still a fangirl, still a simpleton. But I can at least say that I have changed in some ways, in good ways. Tons of eye-openers have happened this year and tons of misfortunes. Sometimes I still wish I can change them but I can’t, so I take them for what it is and try to find a good in what happened. And it’s never easy to be optimistic when my  instinct tells me to shut down everybody and wallow in self-pity. So this has been quite an amazing year, because I am surrounded by amazing people who remind me that there are still a gazillion reasons to be happy.

This year, I did (and didn’t do) a lot of things. So let’s start with the pretty obvious.

Last year, I fangirl(ed).

fangirled

After n years, I finally know that I am back in the fandom. I didn’t do a lot of fangirl-ing back in college because working for a community newspaper and writing my thesis ate too much of my time. I slowly crawled my way back into the KPOP fandom after college, and finally, I arrived. (I swear I didn’t intend to make that sound so dramatic. Heh.) I think it was when I attended CASSPH’s 9G last February that made me want to return to being a rabid fan. And I did.

This year, I got into so many fandoms and made some of my fangirl dreams come true! This year, I seriously felt numerous times that I’m the luckiest fangirl ever. Thank you very much.

March, I saw HwangBo at the airport and watched a shooting of Muhan Girls. April, I visited the land of Kdramas and cried to my heart’s content. May, I got to see Ian Somehalder at MoA even though I’m a bigger Paul Wesley fan. June, I went to HongKong and fulfilled my dreams of seeing ChangMin TVXQ in person! I also got to see CNBLUE that time, and bunch of other artists. But it’s TVXQ and CNBLUE that are the most important ones, okay. October, Big Bang had a concert in the country and of course I was there! And I realize I haven’t properly blogged about it yet. November, Lee MinHo held a fan meeting and a meet and greet, and  I was at both events. I got to shake hands with him, too! I also chased him at the airport and touched his back but I swear I’m not a perv.

I did tons of fangirl-ing in front of my laptop, too. A year after I watched YongSeo‘s stint on We Got Married, I’m still a very heavy shipper of the two. This year, I also became an avid fan of Running Man and I still don’t know which one’s my favorite cast. It’s a close match among KwangSoo, Gary and JaeSuk. Halp. I can’t decide. I am also in love with Bang SungJoon through his drama Shut Up: Flower Boy Band a.k.a. my favorite drama for the year 2012 and maybe my favorite drama since ever.

Most importantly, I can prouldy say once again that I am a Cassiopeia. I was quite inactive over the past few years, but this year, I am a Cassie through and through. I have already accepted that TVXQ today is just YunHo and ChangMin. I am a fan of the old DBSK but no hoping and wishing can bring the five together unless the five make the conscious choice to drop everything, to forget about contracts and responsibilities and dreams and goals, just to be together. And I know that’s not the easiest thing in the world. I know they can’t easily be 5 again. So now, I’ll support TVXQ. I’ll support YunHo and ChangMin and just back them up with whatever they wish to do in the future. 🙂

I also watched 9 Korean dramas and 56 Asian movies. Uhm, I seriously didn’t think I watched that many movies! Hehe. Anyway, I didn’t bother counting the non-Asian thing I watched hrhr.

But you know what’s amazing about all this fangirl-ing? I made so many fangirl friends and converted a couple of friends into fangirls! So I don’t just get kilig out of all these craziness, I also get friendship, and that’s more than I could wish for. [Read more…]

Never-Too-Early Christmas Wishlist

October 16, 2012

It’s already October so it’s acceptable to create a Christmas wishlist this early. Lately, I’ve been wanting so many things but my stingy self is too stingy to spend money. I have tons of things to save for and I ended up spending way too much last September. So this October and November, I’ll make sure to save enough to at least fulfill one of my material wishes. Heh.

I don’t want much. Really.

1. Canon EOS 600D

Because my old dSLR needs to retire. (/insert crying face here huhu) I’ve been using it for four years, and since April, it kept dying on me. First, in Korea. Then when I was in Hong Kong, it refused to function altogether. I almost cried. Buying a new one seems a bit impractical since I’m no professional photographer, can’t even call myself an amateur because saying I’m an amateur photographer means I still take it seriously. But I’m a hobbyist, and my impractical self tells me that I need to have one. Maybe then I’ll start taking it more seriously. I don’t know. But of all the models out in the market, I want this model the most. I’m a Canon girl, so you won’t see me switching to Nikon. Hehe.

2. 1TB External HD

A little fangirl voice keeps telling me that of all the things on this list, I should prioritize this first. I really, really want to listen to that voice. I really do. I cannot believe that I have officially used up the 1TB memory of my current external HD. What the heck have I been downloading?! Anyway, I seriously need a new one and I’m waiting for a KPOP fairy godmother to appear and grant me this wish.

3. Samsung Galaxy Note 2 or iPhone 4S

I’m not a very techie person and I don’t care much if I have the latest gadget or not. But having a smartphone is something that I’ve been wanting for a long time. I seriously want to have internet wherever I go! I’m just not sure what to get, a Galaxy Note or an iPhone 4S? I tried using a Galaxy Note and I love how it’s so big! But I think iPhone has a better camera? I don’t know. I think the Galaxy Note has better resolution. I still have months to think about this so no worries!

4. KPOP stuff

Ever since Ate Karen and Ate Ninay brought me some TVXQ DVDs from Korea, I’ve been wanting to buy more. I know that I complained A LOT about how much the DVDs cost but after going through the 3 DVD concerts in a week, my fangirl heart screams fore more. If I’d ever win in jueteng, I’ll immediately buy:

  • The Secret Code Album
  • The Best of TVXQ (CD + DVD) (Available at the any Astrovision near you! Thanks!)
  • Tone Album
  • Tone Tour DVD

5. TVXQ’s Catch Me World Tour

(Not pictured since there’s no official promotional materials yet!)

Please help Cassies trend #BringTVXQinManila on Twitter. PLEASE! I sincerely wish that South Korea would realize that there are thousands of KPOP fans in the Philippines and thousands of Cassies (currently 13K on Facebook!), too. I already have a plan B in case Philippines won’t be included in their World Tour itinerary but I just really want to hear them say, “Hello, Philippines!” and “Mahal ko kayo!” because I’m shallow like that. The Year I Won’t Stop Trying

January 8, 2012

I’ve been a quitter for too long. It’s about time I stop.

Let’s just say that 2012 will be the year that I will live to the fullest and hope I won’t die from doing too much. I’ve always been so nonchalant towards everything. But this year, I promise to care and to interact more. To live more.

If the world will truly end on Dec. 21 of this year (I doubt it, though!), then I promise to stop spending too much time indoors. I just promise to stop holding back and to start giving more. More everything. Heh. I’ve been living far too long within my comfort zone. I’ve already mentioned here how even palm reading got a tad too boring for me. Apparently, even my palm agrees that my life is too smooth-smailing. I blame it on the fact that I rarely encounter anything challenging or unusual, though.

If life wouldn’t give me an adventure, then I will chase after it. I will go far and wide just to have a taste of a life on edge. Come on, I want to feel infinite, too!

I don’t even know what to call these things I plan on doing. Goals, maybe? I don’t know. All I know is that these are the things I really, really want to do this year. I realized that posting my plans online makes me commit to it more. [Read more…]

11 Obsessions of 2011

January 1, 2012

Back in college, I lied low from fangirl-ing to focus more on school (oh really) and my social life. But once I got out of school, I went back to the one thing I’m good at: obsessing! I’m a certified fangirl and I think everyone knows that already. I think 2011 was the year that I learned how to obsess over other things besides Korean boybands.

It had been such a good year for my obsessions that it would be a pity to not write about the things I obsessed over. I know I have a bunch of other things to write but this cannot wait. While my emotions are still running high, I present to you the things I went gaga for last year. I’ll start from the bottom to build up some suspense. Heh. [Read more…]

Oh Shoot Wishlist

November 30, 2011

My parents always tell me to dream big, and this is me dreaming big.

I know I haven’t been that much into photography lately. I am often too lazy to take photos and too lazy to pose for the camera. But I want to get my photography mojo back, and I will try to get it back by the end of this year. Anyway, I was just planning to create a Christmas wishlist but I realized that most of the things I want are photography-related. Heh. So I created this wishlist instead. I arranged this according to priority. Yes, I have sorted out my priorities in case Ron Weasley asks.

1. EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 (Bought a Tamron 18-135 mm instead! Still from Dbgadgets)

This is just like my broken kit lens! I just really need a standard zoom lens and this is the cheapest in the market. Lulz. Will probably buy it here this month.

2. Holga 135

EEEEEH. I’m so excited to buy this, okay. Cannot wait to try film (though I sucked at it during DEVC140 Basic Photography days)! I intentionally wanted to buy the 120N since it’s cheaper. However, the 135 has an easier-to-find film format so I opt for that. This one’s only P3,000 I think. Not bad for a camera! I can also take multiple exposures using the 135 and that’s the number one reason why I want this. I’m just not sure where to buy one. I saw one in ebay (for only P1,559!!!) but I don’t have a Paypal account. I think Holga 135BC is offered more in local online shops but I’m not so hot about the black corners. [Read more…]
