When searching for where to eat in Baler, this restaurant often cropped on the lists I found online. But it turned out I didn’t do any research at all because just seeing Baler Surfer Grill while we were walking along the baywalk at Sabang Beach convinced us that we should dine there. We saw a lot of other restaurants with pretty interiors, packed with visitors, but it’s this one that caught our attention.
The moment we all took out our phones to take a photos of the Volkswagen, we instantly knew where to have dinner. There were many restaurants near Sabang Beach, and we could have easily enjoyed eating elsewhere. But looking back, I think we made the perfect choice. These photos will not do the place and the food justice, but it’s worth a try.
Baler Surfer Grill started in 2013 and because of its novelty, it has been featured everywhere–from Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho to everyone’s blog.
I have no idea how it looks during the day, but it looks pretty awesome at night, don’t you think? It’s most known for the yellow Volkswagen converted into a grill, but the ambiance of the whole place was pretty memorable. It was still quite early, but there were already a lot of people enjoying the food. There were more people coming in when we left, too.
The al fresco dining had this Christmas lights strewn throughout the place, and it added even more charm to it. There were a lot of available tables, but for a place that’s quite spacious, there’s not a lot of room to move around at the dining area.
It has that chill beach vibe, where anyone dripping wet from surfing or swimming can just walk in and have a meal.
Baler Surfer Grill Menu
Their chalk-illustrated menu looked incredibly enticing with the pretty food photos. There weren’t a lot of choices on the menu, but I still had a hard time deciding what to eat! I usually go for the bestseller, because that’s the only way I could ever decide what to eat.
I think I’ll try the Chicken Pinadapa next time, because half chicken for only PHP 200? Yes, please!
There’s also a separate Surf & Chill Fresh Juice Bar that serves fresh juices and shakes. And again, I had a hard time deciding what to order, because everything looked so good! But I go for my favorite, which is Dalandan-Kalamansi Juice. But here, they call it Kidja-Ponkan Juice.
We didn’t wait that long for our orders. But if we did, I probably would not have noticed at all because I was enjoying what I was seeing and the conversations we were having.
But of course, I was more than happy when our orders arrived!
My Bulalo BBQ and Kidya-Ponkan Juice, which was A+!!!
I had the bestseller Bulalo BBQ which was the restaurant’s bestseller. It was incredibly tasty and good, but I also want to try the other dishes because they looked appetizing as well.
Jill’s Liempo BBQStan and Joan’s Tinopak (tinola sa pakwan) tasted different, but good different! Try it if you’re looking for something that puts a twist on the usual Filipino fare. Elzer said the Grilled Fish was good, too.
This was my most expensive meal in Baler, but it was worth it! Of course, I want to try other places (Kusina Luntian next time please!), but I don’t mind going back here. The menu may be offering just a few stuff, but everything just seems so enticing. The ones we ordered were good stuff, too.
If anything else, the place looks very Instagram-friendly and any corner can be the perfect backdrop for your next profile picture.
