Last Saturday, September 10, I attended my first book signing. It was surreal but incredibly exciting, too.
Ayessa and I went to Fully Booked at Global City for Lourd De Veyra’s The Best of This Is A Crazy Planets book signing. That day marked a lot of firsts for me. It was the first time I attended a book signing. It was the first time I saw a published author in real life. It was the first time I went to Global City and was awed by how big Fully Booked is.
5 floors of hundreds of books that made me salivate! I was only there for the book signing but I ended up buying Jonathan Safran Foer’s hardbound copy of his two-books-in-one erm, book. There are so many things I wanted (A Series of Unfortunate Events boxset!) but I had to remind myself that I should save a little for the book fair the following week. Heh.
We arrived at around 3PM. We spent about an hour roaming the place, waiting for the book signing to start. But we couldn’t see anyone fixing anything, no crowd forming anywhere. The girl at the information said it would start at 4PM. Then Ayessa and I went to the 4th floor to look at the Lomo cameras, and that’s when we saw that the book signing already started. Sob sob.
We spent about an hour waiting in line but it wasn’t boring at all! It was just pure excitement, really. The truth is, I’m not the biggest fan of Lourd De Veyra. I sometimes read his posts in Spot.ph but I do not follow it religiously. I must admit, though, that he’s one of the few writers I have read who have a powerful command of the Filipino language. Some of my favorite Filipino writers aren’t exactly that eloquent in Filipino. Lourd is incredibly good, though, and I often wish I can write as well as he does. Hee. I also wish he wouldn’t chance upon this post and read my embarrassing rants.
They also showed videos so people could watch something while waiting. (It was the first time I saw the videos, too, because I told you, I’m not the biggest fan. I am a fan now, but still not the biggest. Okay.) They even showed a video with a John Lloyd cameo so that made me really happy.
When it was our turn to get our books signed, my heart was extremely thumping. I was so nervous it didn’t make sense. I just couldn’t think of anything to say to him! Good thing he’s incredibly kind and friendly. He did all the talking and questioning and I just stood there like an extremely giddy fangirl.
When he asked me about my job, I almost ran out of the room. I told him I’m an online writer which is kind of true. He asked more questions about my work and I answered something gibberish. Haha. I don’t know. I really cannot explain to anyone the nature of my job. Sigh.
He also noticed my dimples which is kind of amazing because people just usually notice my too big eyes or nose. Never my dimples. But I figured that maybe he just couldn’t think of anything else to write. He couldn’t possibly tell that I have a cute nose, right? Right.

Haha parang parehong-pareho tayo ng experience! XD First time ko rin sa book signing, makita ang videos niya, etc. Nababasa ko sa spot.ph articles niya pero no idea ako na siya pala yun. lol. Nakaka-intimidate at nakaka-excite pala pag ganun. Hahaha. Si Nicholas Sparks daw may book signing din pero di ako fan masyado 😛
