During my 5-month stint as a bum, I did a lot of sleeping, eating, complaining, slouching, crying, and, of course, reading. [Read more…]

Divisoria Loot

August 3, 2010

I don’t know why I get too excited whenever my mother mentions that we’re going to Divisoria.  I swear it makes me more giddy than going to the mall.  So last Sunday, I happily accompanied my mother to Divisoria since she needed to buy some stuff for the store.  She didn’t even have to persuade me because I just usually volunteer to tag along.

While she was buying purses and toys, I wandered alone with only a thousand pesos in hand.  It was already big enough; I could buy so much with that stuff. The truth is, a lot of stuff [that i want] in Divisoria are quite pricey now.  I mean, a blouse for 450PHP?  Are you serious?  I can already buy branded clothes with that amount.

But if you look hard enough and if you haggle well, you can really go a long way with just a thousand.  My mother and sister are good hagglers but I’m not.  I feel guilty when haggling with the saleslady that’s why I don’t bargain too much.  I just usually ask for 10-50 PHP decrease from the original price.  But my mother and sister usually starts haggling a hundred peso less than the original price. Hahaha.

So we were only there for about three hours.  I swear I was so bitin, I wanted to explore more.  But I managed to buy a lot more than planned.  I kept in mind though that I should stop buying random shirts and “cute” outfits and focus on finding clothes I can wear to work.  That includes “polo” and I have never worn one in my life.  I feel like it makes me look old. What Makes You Happy Won’t Kill You

July 29, 2010

Last Wednesday, Irish, my cousin, asked me to eat isaw with her in Sampaloc Lake.  I said yes in a heartbeat since I’ve been craving for that forbidden delicacy for more than a month now.  My boyfriend reminds me always (every time I will tell him that we should eat isaw which is pretty often) that it’s bad for the body. I KNOW.  But I’ve also told my friends (who told me to stop eating street food) that I’d rather die young enjoying the little things in life (like isaw) than die old but avoiding everything that will make me happy.  Sometimes, I also do not understand myself. Heh.

Isaw is absolutely delicious when dipped in vinegar with lots of sili and sibuyas.  But it’s taste isn’t the only thing I enjoy when eating it.  Somehow, I feel very Pinoy when I eat my dugo and bituka ng baboy/manok.  I also like how it’s very inexpensive and I can eat more than ten sticks of isaw without feeling sorry for my wallet. What I like the most about eating isaw is that I don’t have to pretend to be anyone or act demure or whatever when eating isaw.  I don’t know.

Eating isaw is kind of humbling for me.  Like when we passed at this one isawahan near a private school in Manila, I was glad to see that even the posh and pretty people of this country like eating isaw. I mean, there’s really nothing glamorous about eating intestines. Ha.

I don’t make sense, do I? [Read more…]
